What is Yin Yoga?
A gentle, introspective and progressive practice that cultivates inner calm. Yin Yoga is a practice that promotes slowing down, where poses are held in a relaxed manner for a longer period of time, up to 5 minutes or more.
The practice of Yin Yoga features 7 archetypal postures and a multitude of variations. The real challenge of this approach to yoga lies in the ability to remain still and maintain a quality of introspection and enter a space of inner calm. The slow pace allows us to pause in the process of identifying with our thoughts and emotions, while cultivating a keen sense of observation.
We present the practice of Yin Yoga in a sequential methodology divided into 3 main themes.
PHYSICAL / MECHANICAL
Physically, Yin Yoga targets the bones, joints, connective tissue and muscle groups. There is no aesthetic ideal to achieve, which makes the Yin Yoga approach particularly liberating, by emphasizing a functional approach.
This method promotes a spirit of exploration and values the subjectivity of each practitioner.
ASTRAL / ENERGETIC
Energetically, the practice returns to its Taoist roots and uses ancient TCM cartography as well as modern meridian theory. Poses held for long periods of time restore harmony in the subtle body by targeting the channels that run through the connective tissue.
The rebound taking place after the poses allows the practitioner to connect to their Qi/Prana.
CAUSAL / PSYCHOLOGICAL
On an emotional/mental level, the Yin Yoga approach prepares the practitioner for meditation. The inherent qualities of the practice naturally lead us to inwards. The static nature of the poses allows one to penetrate the subject- object relationship, such as the body-mind complex and the field of consciousness.
