Workshop Yin Yoga & Meditation - Pratice & Theory - Language: English 🇬🇧
THE DEFINITION OF YOGA UNVEILED
This immersion offers an exploration of the vision and intention of Yoga found in the classical scriptures such as the Yoga Sutras or the Vedas, called Dhyana Yoga or Yoga of Meditation. They are converging towards an understanding of the nature of the mind.
The qualities that characterise the practice of Yin Yoga, such as stillness, introspection and observation, are absolutely conducive to meditation and its study.
Yin Yoga naturally brings us closer to the meditative experience. The calm and relaxed approach allows the practitioner to merge with ease into the awareness of the breath. The asanas are primarily designed to open the lower body, allowing for longer sitting times without discomfort.
Workshop Schedule
Friday: 18.15-20.15 - 2 hours open to all
Practice: Yin Yoga & Meditation (moving to stillness)
Extremes & The middle way. This sequence will play with the Bhava of the class "mood" and particularly on the energy curve of the practice. It begins with Yang Taoist movements and ends with one single-pointed focus of the mind.
Saturday 1st session: 12.00-15.00 - THE DEFINITION OF YOGA UNVEILED - PART 1 PRACTICE & THEORY
Practice: Yin Yoga for the spine.
This sequence targets the spine by exploring its six directions, decompressing the intervertebral discs and releasing deep tissue tension and stagnation around the lumbar segment and along the spine. Combining asanas and breath awareness throughout the practice.
10 m Break
Theory - The Definition of Yoga - Deciphering the definition of Yoga given in his exposition of the sutras. Yogash Citta Vritti Nirodhah - Yoga is the control of the conceptual mind.
This first lecture will lay the foundation for Maharishi Patanjali using the Samkhya philosophy that Patanjali takes as the canvas for his presentation.
1 hr break 15-16.00
Saturday 2nd session - 16.00 - 19.00
Theory - The Citta - Or our field of perception, in which the Vrittis (fluctuations of the mind) manifest.
Citta is a key concept in yogic psychology, and one of the least explained in the sutras. Let us explore and understand the subtleties of Manas: the mental, Ahamkara: the ego and Buddhi: the mind.
10 m Break
Practice: Yin Yoga & Meditation
An introspective class takes us through a slow, relaxing sequence towards stillness to cultivate a keen sense of observation. To conclude with a single-focus meditation.
Sunday session 9-12 am: THE DEFINITION OF YOGA UNVEILED - PART 2 PRACTICE & THEORY
Practice: Yin Yoga for the hips.
This sequence is centred around the pelvis and uses deep lunges and lower body movements to play with the compression around the hips and explore our range of motion. Combining asanas and breath awareness throughout the practice.
10 m Break
Theory - Nirodha - Or holding, channelling, inhibiting the impositions of the conceptual mind. Nirodha, or the Yoga practice, the control of the agency of the mind, is defined by Patanjali by two terminologies Abhyasa and Vairagya or Practice and Renunciation. What does Patanjali mean? How to integrate some of its wisdom.
Practice: Meditation.
Meditation practice will first calm the mind by manipulating and directing the breath to the lower abdomen, then a single focus of the mind to a more subtle expression of the breath.
